I have always hesitated to mess with my photos too much. I think I was afraid of being able to recover them later. I really liked editing my pictures this week. I chose to first edit one of my leaf peeper photos I took this fall. I was able at one point to really accentuate the fall colors at one point. I ended up not using it because it seemed too fake to me. My favorite this week was taking a picture of my son in his fedora and turning it into a pencil sketch. It really seemed to add depth to the photo. I also liked that I cropped out the useless stuff in the photo. I really actually had fun and may play with a few more photos. It is amazing how you can alter photos so easily now. You no longer have to be a great photographer to make a great picture.
I am so scared and fascinated by the possibilities. I worry that as these tools become more sophisticated that even experts will have trouble analyzing if a photo has been altered. How does the public know what to believe?
There really are some neat applications available for enhancing photos. I liked looking at before and after shots. It almost tells a story of a journey through creativity.
ReplyDeleteI had never given much thought to the possibility of manipulating photos becoming so easy, that the authorities would not be able to tell it was ever manipulated. Let's hope, for our sake that this never happens, but it is yet another avenue to be sure is secure in this world of technology.
ReplyDeleteWe are definitely getting sophisticated with photo editing manipulation lately (in the world, not just in class) so I know what you mean.
ReplyDeleteI downloaded a free photoshop program once, and it permanently altered a really special photo of mine and put it in a strange folder that I couldn't find for years.. there is definitely danger in editing in a software program you aren't familiar with, or that is junk!
