The Joys of Privatization. (warning: HEAVY SARCASM ahead)

I previously posted on the joys instilled upon myself, and my fellow students, by the privatization of my school’s post office. More joyous news:
On Friday, I received an e-mail (at 5 pm) informing me that I had mail in a locker and had two days to pick it up. I went down (90 miles round-trip) today, as it snowed yesterday…and…
I entered my code on their handy dandy machine and it told me to get my mail out of a certain locker number. Which might have worked if the lockers were labeled. They were not. So, after trying at random and getting nowhere I began trying every locker in the bank. Mine failed to open (and my pin was now invalid) but I found a broken locker and someone else’s mail. Yep.
While all this was ensuing a man came up to inspect the lockers. He had been hired as a consultant by the school to fix the myriad problems that had already arisen by the switch. (This already sounds like SUCH A SAVINGS for the school, huh? Private companies are soooo efficient.) He began taking down my info, and we were joined by about 10 other students who’d been unable to get their mail. All the while, one student’s mail was there for anyone to grab… In the end, I did not get my mail. I have to go back Tuesday btwn 8-11 am.
You Guys! This is sooooo much better than the USPS days when I had my own little numbered mailbox and my own little key. I mean, seriously, who wants to be able to check their  mail (or not check it) whenever is convenient? I’d much rather drive two hours to NOT get my mail! Also…it must be cheaper and more efficient for the school to not only pay the mail company but a 3rd party consultant (who promised he’d be on it full-time this summer) than using the USPS. Who wants reliability and efficiency when it comes to important mail? I can’t wait until we privatize Social Security…

  1. This e-mail came today. Please dear ones, tell me where it tells me my mail IS. I see where it isn't.
"Due to an issue with Locker Bank 5 we have had to move your packages so that you can access them. Please disregard the email you received telling you that you have a package in locker bank 5. There are no packages in locker bank 5 at this time, they have all been moved to other lockers.

    Our apologies for the inconvenience,
    The Staff at Mail Services"
